The Great Wall stretches over approximately 6,400 km but a more recent archaeological survey points out that the entire Great Wall, with all of its branches, stretches for 8,851.8 km.
The building of the wall began around the 8th century BC. During the Warring States Period. From the 5th century BC to 221 BC, the states of Qi, Yan and Zhao all constructed extensive fortifications to defend their own borders. Qin Shi Huang conquered all opposing states and unified China in 221 BC, establishing the Qin Dynasty
Most of the ancient walls have eroded away over the centuries, and very few sections remain today. The Han, Sui, Northern and Jin dynasties repaired, rebuilt, or expanded sections of the Great Wall to defend themselves against northern invaders.
The Great Wall concept was revived again during the Ming Dynasty. The section that i visited, Mutianyu was erected during the Ming Dynasty which has the largest construction scale and best quality among all sections of Great Wall. It is also older than Badaling the more commercialized section of the Great Wall.

banyak topi termasuk ala jason beras. nanti saya cari dalam hardisk.
I started off with the posting of The Great Wall for 2 reasons. Firstly, I was requested by my sister in law, our host to put up the pictures of Great Wall and Xian. Second, my main goal of going to China besides visiting relatives was to see and climb the Great wall.

#20. Walking home, sweating after the hard climb
We left KLIA on Sunday 25th April by MAS, a non stop flight to Beijing. The journey was smooth and I didnt take much attention to the news regarding swine flu aired on the screen. We had no problem passing through the immigration but after getting the luggage, all passengers were ushered to have their luggage scanned. I got my 'keropok lekor' consficated.
It was evening when arrived at Beijing and my 'biras' was already there waiting. We had a quick dinner before moving out again in time to watch the flag lowering ceremony at the Tian'anmen square. We walked around an egg like theater where they host arts and musical performances, passed by the parliament building, the Tian'anmen square and outside The Forbidden city.

#24. Inside one of the watch tower. There were spaces to protect from harsh weather and attack inside the tower. The top part has a good distant view and the exit to the other part of the wall.
