Rambut Island Preserve is one of the existing sanctuary areas in Jakarta. This place is included in the group of a thousand island. One of the main attractions of this island is the existence of hundreds of species of birds in the thousands of birds that live here.

In Rambut Island we could take pictures of birds since the newly hatched, especially when being fed by its mother. Also predators that often prey on young birds learn to fly a new.

From the outskirts of Jakarta coast, we only need about 20 minutes boat ride to reach the rambut island preserve

Memang best kalau pergi nature shoot gambar. Kalau lah ada masa. Sangat mencabar Pun tak boleh redah gitu jer. Kena buat homework. Kena tahu bila binatang keluar, bila masa dia makan, apa tabiat dia. Bagi budak baru belajar cam aku, zoo lah tempat terbaik. Memang takder kelas lah tapi bagus sebagai permulaan untuk belajar. Hehehe tadi petang baru jer pergi shoot kat zoo. Tak pernah masuk zoo so tak prepare sangat. Tup tup hujan lah pulak. Hilang tumpuan. Plastik, kain semua tak bawak. Tapi takper, itu recce jer. Next time pergi lagi.

Pulau Rambut, in the Pulau Seribu (Thousand Islands) chain of islands off North Jakarta, is just for the birds.

Based on a 1999 forestry minister's degree, the island, which is only one and a half hours from the Ancol Marina by speedboat, is protected by law as a wildlife sanctuary.

Rambut island's unique ecosystem is an ideal habitat for various bird species. Its coastal forest abounds with pandan (Pandanus tectorius) and undergrowth. In its tidal areas one can find sea spades (Thespesia populnea) and sea casuarina (Casuarina equisetifolia). Acacia and fast-growing lamtoro, which is not native to the area, is also found here.

Some 40,000 birds of 49 species nest on the 45-hectare tract of land. Eighteen of the species belong to the category of rare birds protected by law.

About 40 percent of the resident birds are cormorants; egrets and herons constitute 24 percent, whereas heron-like birds and ibis constitute another 25 percent.
